Wine and wander the Great Southern region

Explore the Great Southern region, where cool climate meets world-class wines.

The Great Southern Wine Region is Australia’s largest wine growing area by land, stretching across five unique subregions; Albany, Denmark, Frankland River, Mount Barker and Porongurup. Known for its pristine landscapes, ancient soils and cool-climate conditions, this region consistently produces wines of outstanding elegance and character.

Each subregion brings something special to the glass: Frankland River excels in structured Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon, Mount Barker is famed for its refined Riesling, Denmark and Albany shine with cool-climate Pinot Noir and Chardonnay and Porongurup delivers crisp white wines and complex aromatic varietals, all influenced by its elevated, granite rich terrain.

With its mix of boutique family-run wineries and world-class producers, the Great Southern is a haven for wine lovers seeking variety, quality and a deeper connection to the land. Whether you're visiting cellar doors, sampling small batch wines, or exploring vineyard-lined backroads, the region offers an unforgettable wine journey.

Opening times may vary seasonally—please check each winery’s website for the most up to date cellar door hours and availability.
